Sueño-Tropical

This is the first of my tests at 2 pm in Regla Cemetery with flash naked first and ND4 filter, Claudia was taking the flash eager hand, she was with us the 4 hours of walking without grumbling, I saw her just overjoyed with her small camera in hand, sharing with us her vision of Regla.

And it struck me suddenly without thinking twice danced a spin in his hand.

Them as models and tireless walk the streets of this city thinking what to cook tonight, the sun mercilessly punished their skins which are not covered by makeup or exotic clothes.

However, these mothers, wives, sisters, continue to transit through this gateway that life is.

I hope not to bore you with photos of Regla town, but this place seems so peculiar and full of stories that I can´t stop telling you about.

The young blind man approaching from the right was posing for some time for several of the photographers who accompanied me.

His smile, his words reminded me that sometimes we are missing some things and not so the world falls down, we grow by the difficulties and continue to appreciate the best of each day.

I jump a little bit ahead in my ride with other photographers from the academy in the town of Regla and go to the end.

We ended up in the cemetery of the village at 2 pm and the relentless sun beating us the skin and the whole place.

I remembered a technique I read somewhere where a photographer used a ND filter and added an external light to obtain an image of terrible times in the photograph.

I took the boldness to try and this is one of the results.

Blue wind

Blue wind by Rey Cuba
Blue wind, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

And I grew wind covered under my mother's lap, I grew up with her hand always protecting my steps, covering the bright light on my face.

But the day came a hurricane of passion veil away my innocence and I saw a different blue, clouds roiling times, different shades of green across the river.

And the earth made me different and the light hit me in the face, while different truths faced my firm step.

And the days went by sometimes fleeting, sometimes slow, then came my daughters and I wanted to cover their shoulders, to clear the way, brighten their faces ...

And now I understand that some how I could relieved a little their way, but they must face the blue and sometimes sail against the wind, lifting the skirts, covers, seats, to form the present day of a different color.

A hug to everyone and enjoy the wind.

Yellow morning

Continuing our route into the town of Regla, in total we were about 12 photographers and a girl (my daughter Claudia), people looked at us puzzled, trying to find a reason these people wearing cameras stormed their streets.

We found a town multiplied in the presence, children playing in the streets, people sitting on curbs, fumigators smoke filling the interiors of the houses to battle against mosquitoes.

We show respect, some asking before shooting, trying not to break the privacy, seeking to capture a different time in the middle of part of Havana that is alien to us, different, away.

Some of my fellow travelers were surprised not to find what they wanted, others kept looking, searching the corners, appropriating light and shadows multiplying everywhere.

Dios Vive

Dios Vive by Rey Cuba
Dios Vive, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

This Saturday we left 12 students from the Academy of Art and Photography Cabrales del Valle to do a photowalk through the town of Regla.

We could not avoid be passengers on the "Lanchita de Regla", commonly known as the boat you cross the bay to the town of Regla.

So with light hopes and passions we move into this town of magic, religion, history and charisma.

Its inhabitants have always had a reputation for fearsome, Bullying, friends parties, witchcraft and "Los guaracheros de Regla", dance on every carnival that has run over by the Havana malecon each summer to remind us that the dance and music also weave our history.

Upon arrival at the dock we enter the church and its patron saint, the Virgin of Regla, out as is already usual cluster flower vendors, asking for his holy saints, fortune tellers, food vendors, prints, candles and more.

We were immersed in the midst of our search for images when this lady called us, Laura and me and began to relate to things that Laura was very impressed about.

While she was talking to me, I could only smile, not only because I found sweetness in his words and encouragement in their ideas. His truths smelled of history, past, parallel worlds, not trodden paths, while in the tree at the background someone writte down God lives.

I hope you have a good day and a wonderful week.

Sueños-humedos

Sueños-humedos, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

And as part of the dream of every night, I surrender to the magic of this eternal motion of the waves, some of which are packed with color, some others marked by a single tone gathering in the morning.

Upon awakening I feel trapped in another dimension, living another reality, beyond the walls and across the border.

Parqueo

Sometimes our lives get park somewhere waiting for the next something...while live continues the endless road.

Conditions, people, even weather change, why get stuck sometimes, live in the past is not the best alternative, learn from the past mistakes should be better.

Have a nice parking day.

One-more-day

One-more-day by Rey Cuba
One-more-day, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

A day trip becoming frustrated by the rain, a grey city in the middle of April, telling stories of strong winds and rain-laden skies, to more than a month since the last time it rained over the city.

The gardens are dry and yellow morning glad this storm, which repeated the dose at various times during the next two days.

On the wall the fisherman took refuge from time to time behind the wall, the strong winds and rain that threatened to overwhelm the city.

I hide my camera from the gusts of wind behind the car window, opening at least strong wind blew, to try to capture a scene that is anything but typical at least in recent years.

It says the effects of greenhouse gases will bring to this area of the Caribbean drought for the coming years. I hope they are only predictions and we can continue with the joys jumping in the rain.

Departing line

Departing line by Rey Cuba
Departing line, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

In search of dreams the fisherman goes, he dream bringing food to his family and if he is lucky will sell some.

Perhaps the silence of the sea, smell and endless blue will take him directly to meet the greatest treasure?

The fisherman leaves every day dreaming of returning with his hands full, the line to resist the attacks of its prey, then back home, he will share the smiles of the children, who dream of having his father back home every day from the lost sea.
