Friendship

Friendship by Rey Cuba
Friendship, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

There are friends that resist the elements and the passage of time, those that are present at all times, you do not need attention, affection or hope, because they know that we belong unconditionally in that wonderful time where we round our minds.

There are just friends who smile because the smallest details and always find a reason to say thank you, a reason to say hello and despise the reasons to say goodbye.

There are friends who accompany us forever, to them I dedicate this reason.

Paso Beatonal

Paso Beatonal by Rey Cuba

Along with Laura, Filip and Els took this stopover after a forest clearing and saw a giant fallen tree near the road.

It's amazing how many things happened in the middle of this stop, we stopped by the tree, then came out of the brush a man in his 60's herding some sheep across the woods, at the edge of the road expecting his wife with a red flag in hand, I instinctively cross the road and wait for something, until I see the lady moving his flag on hands and the animals began to cross the road in search of a safe place.

I little bit After two old mad came out of the forest atop a wagon loaded with cut Marabu, they stopped to allow Filip to shoot some photos with his Hasselblad.

I shoot some photos of them after his wagon built the road, one of those photos was chosen within the Latin American participants in the contest " The Works and Days ".

Laura took several photos of the forest, we all took pictures of fallen tree, then a motor with sidecar passing near by us suddenly stop and its occupants started repairing it, we all went back to the fray with our cameras, is impressive as a stop on the road can offer many different opportunities .

Sometimes we pass in life, and just enough to stop and take a deep breath, I hope you enjoy my friends a wonderful weekend.

Havana Blues

While I was walking through the Malecon with Dave Kile we run into those guys who earn his life posing for the tourist and photographers around.

Dave give them a good tip so they don´t complain about been shot for the long run or by Dave and I. Dave started trying some of the strobist techniques with both of them, while I was the flash standing pole need it in this type of scenes.

The sun was falling fast and after Dave finished the strobist session I started making my own photos, I want to thank Dave for all his tips, ideas and knowledge he share with me.

He is a fantastic guy with a wonderful work and a professional degree on what photography means, but he is modest enough not to brag about it. Once more thanks to Flickr I had the opportunity to meet another very good human being.

Thanks Dave once more for all your help, tips and kind words.

Trinidad faces

Trinidad faces by Rey Cuba
Trinidad faces, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

Trinidad like any other city of the island is at times lit, at times stark, different realities, all combined in the middle of an amalgam of reasons and motives to keep breathing, even when support is scarce and only a smile can remedy the lack of colors.

Faces, gestures all reasons to reflect on who we are and the ephemeral of our steps onto this planet. These are the times when you miss the lack of roads to the diverse, yet there are other times when not having them seems a blessing ... showing once more the eternal contradiction between being or being.

The same evening night amid repair power lines in the neighborhood and nothing better to practice a little Strobist with family nearby, I understood that I need to add more light or a reflector to fill the lower shadows, but I hope overcome this in my next photos.

It turns out that on the surface everything seems quiet, yet undercurrents move inside, modifying, altering, undoing the work that was done before.

There are times were the colours fill the whole day and gray seems apart and new resolutions are ahead. Cienfuegos gave it's best colours and it's people as well.

I hope you had a very nice day.

I have always been amazed at how easy it is to Clau pose in front of a lens, in moments like this I keep seeing his possible future, but how many possible ways can take our children, who knows what their paths, for now I'm concentrating on turn this little people into a better person.

The lone gone rail...Matanzas, Cuba

On the way home we found this wonderful place, I loved since I pass by, Laura forced me to stop running and take the pictures I wanted.

This was one of the many photos that I missed with the Nikon FM2n, the roll was poorly assembled, a neophyte analog experiences that I hope will not be repeated, just in case I made these pictures with the D600, luckily I didn´t missed this beautiful road trip.

Strobist with Sabrina

While Claudia, Sabrina, Laura and I waited for Ana's tennis game to finished, Claudia, Sabrina and I started experimenting with an strong sunny light and the strobist method. Claudia and Sabrina started requesting been in front of the camera, so I said 5 photos each and switched, one posing the other one handling the flash.

In this case the flash was a Metz 48 AF1 trigger by the Yongnuo RF 603 naked with only a gel 1/2 orange CTO to balance the scene. The lens a Nikon 24-70 mm f/2.8.

The simple truth...Cienfuegos, Cuba

The visit to Cienfuegos in the company of Laura, Patricia and Ernesto was spectacular, at the begining I thought that returning to a city I tried to photograph before would not be new or revealing.

How wrong I was, because we had discovered many places over Patricia's hand, I felt awakening into a new city, a part of which went unnoticed before my eyes before.

When this happens I think I'm living with a bandage on my face. How much I have to recognize yet. Getting back to Cienfuegos I recalled the times I faced a second or third time to a good book and everything seems new and refreshingg.
