Rusty Present

Rusty Present by Rey Cuba
Rusty Present, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

Since my daughters were born and began to give their footsteps on this planet, I have always questioned myself as a parent, would I be doing well, my references are too high, my parents grew up with nothing and tried to give us what was within their reach all the time, we grew through many economic limitations, even compared with other countrymen in times of plenty, however, we never miss the love, advice, words of encouragement and drive.

I remember my father telling me stories as a child, when television was still a dream and film fulfill all the spaces for fantasy, his friends accompanied many of the adventures they had imagined and tried to put into practice, grew up surrounded by love and new experiences.

Today I look at my daughters, sons of my friends and I their determination to spend as many hours with every piece of technological artifact who can reach their hands.

Too much time in front of the tv, too much time in front of the PC, they look at me like I was telling a fabricated story, when I say that I didn’t had a pc as a child and I simply encouraged to spend one hour everyday in front of TV. Playing all the time with my siblings or neighborhood friends, that my experiences were almost always limited by the sky and not four walls.

Sometimes I wonder if they look at me like rusty nail in time, outdated or they rather prefer not to collide with the wall which is daily life and invent stories of princes and queens in a fantasy world. I tried to show them a different world, but fashions face me and to stop stalking me, it's hard when we are social beings, now caught up in social networks.

I also spend too much time in front of the pc, My excuse “photography”, which is why I wonder how I could do better.

Holding the world

Holding the world by Rey Cuba
Holding the world, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

Sometimes I feel on top of the world and I think everything is possible.

Other meditate about how life can change in a blink of an eye, as has happened to me before.

In any of these opportunities just try to notice the details and keep track of the most important.

Nikon's dream

Nikon's dream by Rey Cuba
Nikon's dream, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

How long it took me to live caught in the middle of the established, following the path scheduled, plunged into the sea of obligations and responsibilities.

But somehow I take a peek out, letting the light visited me and I came across this world where light and shadows go together.

I started very recently but there is no beaten track, just different ways of looking, stumble, make mistakes and smile, grow amid the light is just different.

Desenfoque Portuario

And we filled our eyes with color, sometimes to much and its light blinds us and blurs more precisely what we need.

Finding the balance is been said easy, however it is so hard to gain, because we are only human and we can give the appropriate response to our emotions all the time.

There were times I lost my direction, I recognize my self unknown, but other times I looked in the mirror and remembered the way, not always the most lighted, but clear enough to avoid unfocused again at least for the next few minutes.

Sometimes is not enough to wait for the low tide, we need to swim a little too ...

Dusty memories

Dusty memories, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

In search of memories I went to the sea, broken dreams, personal fantasies, incomplete roads, the future looks hard and borders the horizon marking the day of my hours.

Some days bring me more gray than others, as I watch other Cubans who seek a living and breathing quiet in front of this Havana bay, who still generous forgiving our contaminated sins.

But despite the gray, how strong the sun and humidity that hits clothes to my body, I try to smile and face the hugs of my daughters and her hands shaken as Sunday´s good-bye.

Another Strobist experiment, flash naked METZ 30 degrees from the camera and shot with a remote Yongnuo, trying to force the back light.

Morro Havana stoned

Morro Havana stoned by Rey Cuba
Morro Havana stoned, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

Sometimes you have to recover any past file, as we get past our memories and experiences, we could count how many stories these walls knows, the walls standing the test of time, walls surrounding the city, and are now quoted in thousands of people who walk along the walls in search of vestiges from our past.

Who we were and who we are is part of what we found at every turn and our reflections tell the stories that water lets on.

For my part I try to tell my stories to my daughters, they listen to me sometimes attentive, sometimes I feel that way long, his ears, but always told a story waiting to be part of her memoirs, such as today my father´s stories remains with me.

If you can, tell your children, nephews, grandchildren, some piece of your past memoirs.
