A rainy morning and I feel like it I do not want the gray as the star and try to get up on the red of this land to escape the chains.

One-more-day

One-more-day by Rey Cuba
One-more-day, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

A day trip becoming frustrated by the rain, a grey city in the middle of April, telling stories of strong winds and rain-laden skies, to more than a month since the last time it rained over the city.

The gardens are dry and yellow morning glad this storm, which repeated the dose at various times during the next two days.

On the wall the fisherman took refuge from time to time behind the wall, the strong winds and rain that threatened to overwhelm the city.

I hide my camera from the gusts of wind behind the car window, opening at least strong wind blew, to try to capture a scene that is anything but typical at least in recent years.

It says the effects of greenhouse gases will bring to this area of the Caribbean drought for the coming years. I hope they are only predictions and we can continue with the joys jumping in the rain.

Departing line

Departing line by Rey Cuba
Departing line, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

In search of dreams the fisherman goes, he dream bringing food to his family and if he is lucky will sell some.

Perhaps the silence of the sea, smell and endless blue will take him directly to meet the greatest treasure?

The fisherman leaves every day dreaming of returning with his hands full, the line to resist the attacks of its prey, then back home, he will share the smiles of the children, who dream of having his father back home every day from the lost sea.

I was reading Ivan´s comment on my last photo www.flickr.com/photos/toro66/ www.flickr.com/photos/reycuba/6937731224/ and it's like suddenly I jump into the time machine, I came back to the door of this Luyano "solar" with invisible boundaries set for privacy.

*"Solar" is a big old house full of rooms or converted into many rooms to fullfill a big number of families inside, divided in small rooms"*

Like many of the "solares" in Havana, it was located in an old colonial mansion, we caught the simplicity of its inhabitants, I was standing at the door when one of it´s neighbors told me ... "Hey son with these cameras are doing an story for internet or because we you are going to fix this place" ... all with the grin of someone who knows neither the one nor the other, but could not stop joking on us.

I asked if we could go inside, even if we did not take any pictures, because my fellow photo tour, wanted to know how was inside, she replied ... "of course in this place you will only find decent people who live and we are very friendly "...

So the five photographers from Hong Kong and I entered the narrow hallway on the right contained most of the rooms one after the other, one a family watched the baseball game between Industriales and Matanzas in an old TV Caribbean, I really do not understand how it stayed alive after at least 30 years of use.

Each room with its intermediate top floor ( Barbacoa) to beat the vertical space than narrow and elevated, but with the simplicity and the warm smile on the verb of each of its inhabitants. There I learned that in Hong Kong are still much smaller spaces where people only have room for a bed.

In the midst of the narrowness of the roofs in poor condition, the daily difficulties, these people gave us in the evening the best of their day. I want to dedicate these photos to those Cubans who gave us so much affection that Sunday afternoon.

Havana and Hong-Kong

Havana and Hong-Kong by Rey Cuba
Havana and Hong-Kong, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

I was walking down the stairs in search of "B & N in the 259" My first photo in this series and I meet www.flickr.com/photos/reycuba/6924505762/ two people coming up the hill looking at us smiling with a electric bicycle who now enjoys great popularity among city inhabitants.

These bikes avoid waiting at bus stops or pay for get on any of the former rental cars that swarm the city, they continued their route to Mirna's house at #275 and one of the photographers from Hong Kong asked to pose for the photo above of his new horse.

For these photos only mediated signs and smiles, a few minutes after Don Quixote entered the palace at #275 and asked the rest of the family to pose for the photographers who looks very happy gathering across these happy Cuban family.

For my part, surprised at how well this Sunday afternoon was starting as we strolled through the neighborhood of Luyano.

Last Sunday i had the chance to share an evening with five photographers from Hong Kong, one of them Clemente i have seen many photos and we know through the magic of Flickr. These five wonderful human beings share with me a small tour in two parts of the city, we talked a little, cheerfulness much, we walked through Luyanó and the heights of Santos Suárez.

We have been engaged in talks with the neighbours, sometimes not need the word, it was enough to the fact that the hands, the eyes and smiles were part of everything needed for the both the photographers and neighbours of this Havana to share a moment where the light was the main actor.

For a moment i was so happy to be Cuban, lot of smiles, greetings from my fellows of the neighbourhood, children posing for the pictures, adults in their wish of a good day, a Yoruba santero talking about the good energies in both Hong Kong and Havana, a woman from a Cuban solar in the middle of Luyanó that invite us to walk the inside, while she told us her stories to try to fix the building.

Families in the sidewalk resting of the gentle Sunday´s breeze, others enjoying the game of baseball between Matanzas and Industriales, to end up in the house of an artisan in the higher area of Santos Suárez where we were going to take some pictures of the city from the heights.

Really my friends of Hong Kong and i spent a moment in our very nice photowalk . I wish to much to see their photos from Cuba.

Havana in one shot

Havana in one shot by Rey Cuba
Havana in one shot, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

So many times I wanted to see the Habana from the sea, to photograph it from the open sea and so many times i had to save this desire in my dreams.

This is why every time i can i turn to the shore nearest through the bay and watch from its more immersed in neighbouring on the other side.

Havana seduce me always on to meet a building which had not have noticed, a balcony or shape, Havana always surprises me and sometimes single sometimes i dream of capturing it in a single photo.

Raúl

Raúl by Rey Cuba
Raúl, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

Raúl live in the bay of Cienfuegos, near the Castillo de Jagua, his home at the Cienfuegos bay shore with piles to the sea and his wife Rosa and their two grandsons Manuel and Monica.

His son and daughters-in-law spend most of the time working in the city and return home on the weekend to meet all.

Raúl has already 74 years and is still carrying the living on the house, the boat ride of the Cuban tourists or foreign accross the bay and leads to the corners that you don´t see from the coast, Key visits, it´s inhabitants and told us about the hard time when the last hurricane strike.

A cuban of these times that even moves to force by the seas of Cuba.
