Inclinaciones antiguas...Angerona

Two photos of a place we would definitely go back, there is so much to photograph, that we stayed with the desire to return.

I still looking for information on the layout of the site, there are underground constructions that we draw attention and we would like to know were they used for.

It´s a good thing we have a lot to learn from the Angerona ruins. I wish you all a good day .

"Oak smell"...Angerona, Artemisa

Stories said that in the 19th century along narrow Havana streets two different cultures found, the cult Brehmen Cornelius Sausse migrated and the elegant and wealthy exiled Haitian Ursula Lambert.

Between the two a love was born not self-esteem of those times because of his racial tinge, so German buys a farm to her lover and both retire to build the second coffee plantation in importance of Cuba at the time.

Stories tells that el cafetal housed 450 slaves at the time receiving treatment differentiated as it comes from oral tradition, the remains of the estate contain advanced techniques for water storage and production of coffee. In its 538 hectares were capable of producing up to 150 000 pounds of very precious grain at the time.

At the entrance of the estate was a sculpture Angerona, Goddess of silence and inner voice, originating in Roman culture.

We arrived at the site trying to find this sculpture and I found out, that it was stolen by unknown persons and then found somewhere in San Antonio de los Baños, is now in the Museum of Artemisa.

I promised return to this place of Enchantment, the next with any lotion against gnats and mosquitoes that dominate the area and never stop bothering us during the two-hour visit to the site.

The Jagua Castle save some interesting stories, this fortification was constructed at the entrance to the Cienfuegos bay to avoid trade established between pirates with settlers in the area.

It was built and its stones taken from an area annexed to the castle, its blocks custom cut and using animal blood, clay and knew of trees to unite them.

The place lacked potable water, and therefore the engineers who designed the castle thought a piping system that collects all the rainwater and reaches the cistern that was under the earth under the castle´s courtyard.

An small piece but impressive for their times. Another example of what earlier civilization constructed with less resources and technical development.

Sonrisas ingeniosas

Sonrisas ingeniosas by Rey Cuba
Sonrisas ingeniosas, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

We were catching the memories of this old house of the countess of Jibacoa, whose side walls still sustain the weight of time and some people still live in their interior, after a while a couple of kids appear, then two more, all asking to be photographed.

I wasn't happy so far with what i had captured, i began to search their smiles a sense for my visit to the ingenuity beyond the history of the place.

The first shots run in straight in its poses as well as military, Laura asked for their names, i tie the shoes of "El Titi" (6 years boy), they four took turns to pose for Laura and then leaving as cars for where i was standing, with these energies, which only children can show.

Of course that between smiles, visions, then came the common denominator of modern days in these boys ... let me see how it looks .... so we low our cameras and show the images on the LCD display.

Crossing roads, spaces, fields of what once was the garden of Cuba, we enter the premises of the new Artemisa province in search of its history, after investigating a little by the ruins of sugar mills, we have walls that in colonial times were Hostel of countesses, aristocrats and slaves.

San Francisco, one of the properties of the famous Countess of Jibacoa, famous for his works of charity and altruistic spirit had reached the sugar mill. Today its walls recall the history of a past where the skin color distinguished slave status.

We arrived at Guanajay and we have a town with a wide architectural culture, from here it traded on all coffee and sugar, first through the port of Mariel, then through the railway direct to Havana.

In search of a little history of the place I found myself with a bit of the life of the Ms. Doña Asunción de la Barrera and Espinosa Contreras, Countess of Jibacoa, wife of Don Miguel Herrera, which I share with you.

Cienfuegos...Cuba Photography

I am one of those that dawns every day to a good early, use to wake up and peer  out the window at home and my eyes go in search of the light that surrounds us.

This morning in Cienfuegos as is my custom i went in search of the good energies of beginning of the year and while the sun warmed my body, i devoted to enjoy the morning reflexes.

I hope someday to be able to reflect in my photos a part of what my eyes breathe through the light.

I wish you all a day filled with good energies.

We live the life tied to concepts that surround us which walls, keep to the strings that can stand up above the wall is difficult and complicated.

Sometimes as bonds of shoes perennial, always ready to tie ourselves around the everyday, the established.

It is difficult get rid of the majority, although those who dare to try, are admired by the rest of us that keep as spectators, behind the first row.

Minas de Matahambre

Minas de Matahambre by Rey Cuba
Minas de Matahambre, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

Recite some pundits that the origin of the name of the place is because some farmers came to the area in search of food, i.e. kill hunger.

I was reading in some bibliographies and in this area to the northeast of Pinar del Rio was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century copper deposits.

They were exploited greatly by an American company and after 1959 by the cuban government.

Contains the second mine deeper of America with 1553 meters, level 45 refer the knowledgeable ones. It was left to exploit in 1997 and today is considered National Monument.

Some people talked about the extraction of gold, but i could not find any reference in this regard.

In the staff of my short visit to the place i can also tell you that i found fascinating to get into the mountains that surround the population and to discover that the people was much bigger than i had imagined, according to official figures should have about 34 000 inhabitants.

Reflejos Cienfuegueros

Reflejos Cienfuegueros by Rey Cuba
Reflejos Cienfuegueros, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

How much of us today is a reflection of the education of our parents, the influence of our friends from the moldings of society where we live.

We reflect much in our daily struggle on this planet earth, and then leave our mark on those who know us.

Cuba today reflects the brief history of this small island. Cubans by all parts of the world commenting on what they have had, or will have, but most of them commenting on the island, either in favor or against.

Just as here in a few years who knows how many, we will talk about other reflections, can show you other colors, because if there is something true is that the world does not stop its step and time turn into past what today seems like a good reality.

Sometimes i will stop before a reflection of what i am, but i don't spend much time in front of it, i prefer to continue my step in my journey through this voyage we call life.

Happy reflexes to all.

Morning from a fairy tale

Avenida 54

Avenida 54 by Rey Cuba
Avenida 54, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

There are places that mark our steps and invite us to explore them, Cienfuegos 4:00 pm, in the interior of the church began the first mass of 2012 to the city's inhabitants and parishioners crowding into the place.

Outside a lukewarm light of Sunday filled the street, a few passers-by, glances flocked on others who like me wandered around the city looking for images, we meet with a group of visitors from other countries that turn the spaces in amalgams of Nikon´s, Canon´s, Sony´s, large and small lenses, by sharing some of their photos with the inhabitants of the place.

An anthill of photographers filled with alternating silences the 54 Avenue, on the one hand the songs of the first mass, competing only with one click of the triggers and the singing of the birds.
