Shadow dreams

Shadow dreams by Rey Cuba
Shadow dreams, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

There are times when I think the gray around me drown me, and then I remember that gray is not black, the light must be reflected somewhere.

Seeking the light, deep breath and say, no other strokes that's take to arrive, we must strive to feel better about ourself.

Sometimes we engage Laura and I discussing our photos, what to say, how to say it, when to say, to what language to speak.

Those discussions, sometimes heated discussions, make us grow both, through dialogue allow us to leave the gray, monotonous and continuous scrutiny of every day.

She calls these photos, the exaltation of the old, to me is the history of the places to wander as a child.

I look back and I feel certain friendliness and remember that for many not always everything is clean, nice, friendly, sometimes you are in the mud and you need to take to walk, but you have to learn how to move around, to reach the mainland. At least that land that as flag raised by many and not always have to be yours.

Most of the time I meditate on the hard times of the past who ultimately are the ones that keep me sane today.

This one was made while I was walking Old Havana with Laura, Juan and David.

Hugs and happy weekend everyone.

Francisco

Francisco by Rey Cuba
Francisco, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

He is Francisco a retired worker from the docks near by, he now works picking and selecting metal recycling materials.

He was really cooperative and willing to help us while we walked through this Old Havana street. He event asked for a photo, David and I make our shots.

Francisco was smiling all the time while the rest of us were enjoying the Saturday weekend, he was working hard, at this moment resting at the shadow.

Every time I look at this photo I remember why I should smile more.

Patricia

Patricia by Rey Cuba
Patricia, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

Patricia was sitting at shore, watching other kids playing, his face showed the joy of others, but on the other hand, the words left his mouth with great sadness when I asked her why did not bathe.

"My dad will not let me" ... said with sad eyes and turned his face to the soft morning sun.

Blue old Havana Car

Blue old Havana Car by Rey Cuba
Blue old Havana Car, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

As we walked through Havana with Juan, Laura and David, I started wondering why I feel so reluctant to shop the old cars going through Havana.

I don´t know if it´s because my brothers never taught me how to drive their old 50´s Chevrolet, or because every photographer I run into is doing the same.

The end point is that I am loosing part of Cuba and my city history, so I will promise myself doing it the best way I can. It doesn´t mean this is the one, but it portraits an idea I have flooding around.

Have a very good weekend my friends.

There is always hope, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

In the mist, when we hit every day or lose the step, there is always hope.

The road is not always clear, sometimes green, sometimes without space. But a road though not always seem clear way.

Golden Fishermen...Malecon, Cuba

It was Friday afternoon, Laura, Claudia and I went for a walk in the harbor of Havana, on entry we find a group of fishermen who showed their commitment to capture some loot from the sea.

Some taking it very seriously, others letting time passing by, while most immersed themselves in a fight to show their skills and knowledge of this ancient activity.

But while they make it, it was hard to stop talking, giving advice, encouraging each other. It's like a big family had come together at the edge of the Malecon to enjoy the soft touches of the evening light.

Laura did not really like the photo, she says it remembers an HDR photo and really what I used in this case was a filling flash, exposing for the background. After a bit of tweaking in LR and PS to give the finishing touches.

The fallen king

The fallen king by Rey Cuba
The fallen king, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

Sometimes all you need is a push to go further, others have so clearly the next step that, sometimes scares me how diffuse is mine.

Yesterday some colleagues commented that the basis for advance is the organization, we should be organized first, then we can carry on any project, but what is the correct path? Which door to knock next?

All we need is an starting point, instead of moving with falling head amid the trials and daily concerns, I would rather take walking, playing and if a door closes then i'll try another, but occasionally I wonder, I'm doing well , what's the purpose of this struggle.

As humans we always compare ourselves whit some others, we measure, we face different steps and all try not to stumble back down.

I hope I never forget my origins, and not have to walk with his head down. Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.

El rayo...Artemisa, Cuba

El rayo...Artemisa, Cuba, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

This Saturday I had to help a friend and while I was waiting decided to take my camera and go out to shot new images within this hot summer.

Some places are magical and this one wasn´t the exception, and the Cuban coast populations settled on its shores have a variety of forms and impressive shapes.

At the end of the evening at home, I was so thankful that I helped my friend, thanks to him I visited this town at a time that never asisted before.

The sun is gone...Valle Yumury, Matanzas, Cuba

Sometimes I think the sun is gone and the light that always take from granted fades, giving way to shadows.

Today as humans we take for granted many things and we live in a sea of merits and rights, while the duties have succumbed to our minds.

Alleged obligations, behavior patterns, role models have been issued for the rest and we look at those who can full fill it with pity.

It is true that long ago we left the caves, but if we continue to eat what we have, we run the risk of ending up without the guiding light.

Futbol sala

Futbol sala by Rey Cuba
Futbol sala, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

It was not until I started editing this photo that I realized I had photographed an interior space of a former home, which became exterior now , two children as part of their games, playing football inside.

How many families should have walked this same space, conversations, dreams, desires, fights, some roofs are now changed and exposed stairs.

The city is changed at gigantic speed, over time will weigh on its foundations and many like me, just see it change.

Lazaro in Havana technicolor

Lazaro in Havana technicolor by Rey Cuba
Lazaro in Havana technicolor, a photo by Rey Cuba on Flickr.

And I am suddenly walking through a street covered many times, either walking, or on bike, this corner has been transformed over the years.

I still remember the neighbors who lived in the building in the background, later demolished, later inside hostel later bikes and now converted into a series of mini-workshops and stalls viands.

However Lazaro our car´s technician, tinkerer and inventor of these devices that today swarm Havana, proudly show commissioned as inside this sauro still keep the original motor and many parts.

Proud showed us as a trophy and conquer of his dreams, how many nights thinking how to adapt, combine, use what you have on hand. Feeling after your engine purring thankful for delivery.

A good time let us capture John, David and me, I do not remember Laura taking pictures of this relic of the time. She was concentrating on the details at front, where a tree embedded in the facade on the top floor recounted over time.

I don´t know how to choose with version as I´m in love of my latest work all the time.

Isaac was here...Havana,-Cuba

It was the gray afternoon responsable of colours, while the persistent salted wave of drops wrapped our bodies.

The wind and waves were a batch coming and going. The rocks sitting there waiting patiently to offer bed den and his first steps on to this Caribbean island.

Behind the city quiet, waiting for strong winds and rain, at least escaped from the sweltering heat of summer.

This past Saturday I had the opportunity to meet David a photographer from California who has an interesting work and a domain of photography in a wide spectrum.

Besides his good company, the chat about his travels around the planet, we visited one side of Havana in a long run of course accompanied by Laura and John a teacher and Cuban photographer.

We toured for about 6 hours by Central Havana and Old Havana and I can say that helped me in my endless road of learning.

In this case, we were walking down a street in Old Havana, when John went to one of the few buildings which still has not renewed and preserved a few windows as part of the original structure, the building is over 200 years today serves as a shelter for some dozens of families.

One of these families have a dog that felt tale about strangers began to bark and this child reassured him with only two words.

David as a gift gave him a pencil and in gratitude the boy extended his hand.
